Actiontec MoCA Wi-Fi Extenders Achieve Near-Gigabit Speeds in Real-World Independent Testing
New Actiontec Optim? software adds remote management capabilities for high-performance managed Wi-Fi By PR Newswire

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics today announced that its WCB6200Q MoCA Wi-Fi extenders achieved near-gigabit Wi-Fi speeds in an independent field test commissioned by the MoCA Alliance ? surpassing some of the most popular mesh solutions by an average of several hundred Mbps.

The Actiontec WCB6200Q Wi-Fi extenders feature bonded MoCA 2.0, enabling consumers to use existing cable wiring as a backhaul for extending the Wi-Fi network beyond the primary router, as opposed to mesh solutions that use Wi-Fi as the backhaul. The consistent performance of Actiontec's Wi-Fi extenders is a crucial consideration in today's connected home, as consumers engage in higher-bandwidth activities on a growing number of wireless devices.

Actiontec's new Optim software enables service providers to remotely manage home Wi-Fi networks that feature select Actiontec routers and extenders, like the WCB6200Q. Optim also enables the extenders to self-optimize Wi-Fi delivery, ensuring fast and reliable 802.11ac Wi-Fi to all areas of the home, while offering a new level of visibility, manageability, and intelligence to the-Fi network. Together, Actiontec's Optim and MoCA extenders give service providers the tools to reduce operational expenditures through self-healing and remote diagnosis, as well as capitalize on new revenue opportunities with managed Wi-Fi services.

"We have been working with the MoCA Alliance and some of the leading broadband service providers in North America to deliver a better wireless experience inside the home. The addition of Optim remote management to our MoCA Wi-Fi extenders is an important part of the whole home solution, as it significantly enhances the customer experience and lowers carrier operating costs through remote management, customer self-service, and intelligent automation," said Brian Henrichs, Chief Business Development Officer at Actiontec Electronics.

MoCA Alliance commissioned independent testing firm Dekra to conduct field tests comparing Actiontec's MoCA 2.0 extenders with Wi-Fi mesh extenders to determine the best solution for sustaining performance throughout a typical U.S. home with multiple streams of traffic running concurrently. The testing found that Actiontec's MoCA 2.0 extenders outperformed the Wi-Fi-only solutions by a significant margin in TCP and UDP, downlink and uplink. Specifically, the Actiontec MoCA extenders delivered 800 Mbps or better downlink Wi-Fi performance in each of the 11 test homes, while the Wi-Fi mesh products could only achieve an average of 300 Mbps or less.

"Actiontec's commitment to networking performance and reliability makes them a trusted partner in developing benchmark MoCA solutions for today's connected home. Their MoCA Wi-Fi extenders in our field tests proved that a wired backhaul is the best foundation for achieving high-performance whole-home Wi-Fi coverage," said Charles Cerino, President of MoCA.
